We seek a talented and experienced Director of People & Culture to join our team for a contract maternity leave coverage position. As the Director of People & Culture, you will be pivotal in overseeing various aspects of HR operations, including insurance licensing processes, recruitment, performance management, and diversity initiatives. Your strategic leadership will drive the development and implementation of HR strategies aligned with our organization's goals and objectives. What does the Director of People & Culture do?
  • Oversee insurance licensing processes for employees, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maintaining accurate records of licenses and certifications.
  • Stay informed about changes in insurance regulations and licensing requirements, providing guidance to HR and management teams to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Develop and implement HR strategies aligned with the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the recruitment and hiring process, ensuring the attraction and retention of top talent.
  • Establish and maintain HR policies and procedures in compliance with employment laws and regulations.
  • Lead performance management processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, and feedback mechanisms.
  • Foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the organization, promoting awareness and implementing initiatives to support these values.
  • Manage employee relations issues, including conflict resolution, disciplinary actions, and grievance procedures.
  • Collaborate with department heads and senior leadership to address organizational challenges and drive cultural change.
  • Analyze HR metrics and data to assess the effectiveness of HR programs and initiatives and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Oversee compensation and reward programs, ensuring they are competitive and equitable.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in HR and proactively recommend innovative solutions to enhance the employee experience.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing HR team, providing guidance, coaching, and professional development opportunities.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on people-related matters, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.
  • Oversee corporate events, including employee engagement activities, annual BIG Hearts charity events, President's Club and Broker Roundtable, ensuring seamless coordination and execution to promote team building, philanthropy, and recognition within the organization.

  • Experience leading recruitment and hiring processes, including sourcing top talent, conducting interviews, and implementing effective onboarding programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead performance management processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, and feedback mechanisms, to drive employee engagement and development.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with department heads, senior leadership, and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze HR metrics and data to assess program effectiveness and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
  • Experience overseeing compensation and reward programs, ensuring they are competitive, equitable, and aligned with organizational goals.
  • Understanding of insurance licensing processes and regulatory requirements, with demonstrated experience in maintaining compliance and managing licensing for employees an asset.
  • Experience leading and delivering corporate events an asset

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
  • ·HR certification (e.g., CHRP, CHRL) preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in HR management roles
  • Experience within a start-up or scale-up company preferred.
  • Insurance industry experience an asset.
